Just like any relationship that starts with good intentions, you and your web designer could one day end up parting ways.
If you decide for any reason that you need to part company with your web designer, will it even be possible? Some use their own specially designed website platform and will only work using their own web servers.
This makes it difficult to move your website from your web designer later on. It is better to find out now that if the site can’t be transferred to another provider, otherwise they will have you over a barrel and you will be stuck paying hosting fees to the same web designer that you are desperate to leave.
The only alternative would be to pay for a whole new website and go through this process again.
If the website is built on a generic platform, you can change web designers or hosting if you are not happy.
Now I realise this sounds like a lot to stuff to ask, but if you miss asking these questions, it may well come back to bite you later with extra expenses and locked in contracts.
These are some questions to ask the web designer. If they come across uneasy about the answers, let that be a red flag to take precaution.
